The standards we follow

Three IS marks. Pick the right one.

India's Bureau of Indian Standards publishes three standards that cover almost everything we make. Each one is its own discipline — built for a different kind of building.

  1. IS 303

    Indoor furniture · MR & BWR

    The standard behind most indoor furniture.

    Moisture-resistant for general interior work and boiling-water-resistant for higher-end cabinetry. Together they cover the majority of indoor furniture and joinery.

  2. IS 710

    Marine Grade · BWP

    Boiling water proof.

    Boiling-water-proof plywood bonded with phenolic resin and verified by a boiling water immersion test. The glue line holds under prolonged water exposure, making it the grade we recommend wherever water is present.

  3. IS 5509

    Fire retardant · stamped FR + BWP

    Built to slow flame, not just water.

    Plywood treated to delay flame propagation under heat. Required for hospitals, hotels, high-rises and public-assembly buildings under most state codes — Chetak Suprima carries IS:5509 and IS:710 simultaneously.

Every Chetak board ships with a registered warranty card. The numbers below are the years promised on the card, graded from the engineered MDF up to the fire-retardant marine board.

Chetak Alfa — IS:4990 film-faced shuttering ply is rated for 15-20 slab repetitions rather than a year-based warranty.

How we test

Six checks before a board leaves the factory.

  1. Raw material & timber inspection

    Raw material & timber inspection

    Incoming timber and raw material is graded on density, knots and moisture before it enters production.

  2. Veneer drying
    02

    Veneer drying

    Each veneer is dried to a controlled moisture level so the final glue line cures cleanly.

  3. Hot pressing

    Hot pressing

    Pressure, time and temperature are logged per stack, so every panel carries a press record.

  4. Hammer test

    Hammer test

    A supervisor checks multiple spots on every sheet for air bubbles and de-bonding before it moves on.

  5. Boil & flame test

    Boil & flame test

    BWP samples undergo a boiling-water immersion test; fire-retardant samples are flame-tested to IS:5509. Failures are pulled, never shipped.

  6. Grade stamp

    Grade stamp

    Every sheet is stamped with its grade, batch and date for full traceability.
